When Crisis Calls for Generosity- 07/19/2026

Last week in Acts 11:19–26, we saw how the church in Antioch began; not through famous leaders, but through ordinary believers who were faithfully sharing the gospel. And as they did, the hand of the Lord was with them. People turned to Jesus, and over the course of a year, Saul and Barnabas taught and discipled this growing community. By God’s grace, these new believers became a strong, Spirit-filled church. But what happens when pressure hits? What happens when that same Spirit-filled, growing church faces crisis, hardship, and uncertainty?

That’s where our passage picks up today. After a year of spiritual formation, this young church is met with news of a coming famine; something that would impact the entire region. And what we’re about to see is not just how they survive the crisis, but how the Holy Spirit leads them to reflect the heart of Jesus in the middle of it. This passage shows us what a Spirit-led church does in times of need that allows the entire body of Christ to not just survive, but thrive.
