The Power of Prayer (POP) 8/2/2026

Life can bring moments that shake us to the core: an unexpected diagnosis, a lost job, a fractured relationship, or a cultural shift that makes following Jesus feel costly. Yet those moments are not the end of the story. They become holy invitations to lift our eyes above fear, silence the noise of worry, and turn our hearts toward the God who hears us through real, passionate, focused prayer.

That is the sacred crossroads where the early church stood in Acts 12. Herod Agrippa I, grandson of the Herod who tried to kill baby Jesus, saw political advantage in persecuting believers. He executed James the apostle with the sword. Then, encouraged by the crowd’s approval, he arrested Peter and placed him under maximum security, intending to display him publicly after Passover. But the church did not surrender to fear. They did not spend the night rehearsing despair or asking only, “Why, God?” Instead, they gathered in faith, filled a house with hope, and stretched themselves toward heaven in prayer, believing that even when doors are locked, chains are fastened, and the situation looks impossible, God is still able. When God’s people pray earnestly, He works powerfully according to His wisdom, timing, and will.
