Baby Steps of Faith

Pastor Jen

Baby steps are the small, obedient advances God asks of us when the full path is still unclear. Like a toddler learning to walk, faith often means taking one revealed step at a time rather than demanding the entire map. Twice as Paul, Silas, and Timothy traveled they were rerouted by the Lord. Those changes in the plan did not make the most sense. There were good reasons to go to those places. They seemed like places that lasting fruit would be sown, and it would be, eventually, but not at that time. What looked like a series of detours was actually God directing His servants to the precise place and people He intended. They did not yet see Luke, the physician who would travel with them, write the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, and later stay with Paul to the end (Col. 4:14; 2 Tim. 4:11). They did not yet see Lydia by the river in Philippi, the jailer and his household, or the churches that would rise in Macedonia. They simply kept taking the next step. True faith takes the next step God reveals, even when the destination remains hidden.
