21st Century Koinonia- 01/11/2026
Pentecost has just unfolded, the Holy Spirit has descended like a mighty wind, and Peter preached a message that resulted in a great harvest. In that single day, about 3,000 people made the life-changing decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives. What a powerful first step! But as we’ll see in Acts 2:41-47, that initial decision is just the beginning. The early church didn’t stop at conversion; they dove into a vibrant, shared life together, a life marked by what the Greek word “koinonia” describes: deep, family-like fellowship and community.
Today, in our fast-paced, often isolated 21st century, we need this koinonia more than ever. At Seattle Foursquare, we’ve made it our model, purposefully incorporating elements like eating together, worshiping, praying, and teaching at most gatherings. Those who engage beyond the Sunday message feel truly connected; they know they are family. This passage challenges us because it shows a way of living faith that’s radically different from our individualistic experiences, yet it’s the fresh expression of the Church straight from Jesus’ hands. It’s not a quaint idea; it’s a Spirit-led response to loneliness, isolation, and need, built on principles that can guide us today. Koinonia in inclusive community unleashes God’s blessing and transforms lives.
