Deception Pass 11/102024

Nov 10, 2024

As we read these truths that make up a paramount cornerstone of the Gospel, there often seems to be a disconnect in our daily walk. Some convince themselves that they are not in Christ due to the condemnation they feel.

How many of you have felt condemnation in your life?

How then do you wrestle with the scriptures that say, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ, or if anyone be in Christ he is a new creation, the old has passed away behold the new has come (Rom. 8:1, 2 Cor. 5:12).

As I was pondering this message and praying for an example that would be easy to hold onto, I thought of the Deception Pass Bridge. There is a place under the bridge that affords an amazing view, but not a place I would want to be in an earthquake. With all the concrete and steel from the bridge as well as the weight of the cars looming overhead, one certainly would be crushed from the falling rubble.

Often it is an accusation or even self-doubt that brings condemnation into our lives and draws our attention to the apparent instability with our security with the father.

Going from the assumption that all scripture is God breathed and perfect, I must meet apparentdiscrepancies with humility and entertain the prospect that I am in the wrong, or at least my understanding is. Today we are going to pick this scripture apart, just as forensic science does in pursuit of truth, but we will also put it all together with a recap of the afore mentioned text to display a full picture of what we are pondering, looking at both the forest and the trees. By the time we are done we will show you that it is simply a poor argument we allow to separate us from the love of God and what Paul is describing is a beautifully simple truth (Rom 8:38). The deception purveyed upon us which we so easily believe will be unmasked.
