The Secret of Joy - 12/24/2023
Over the past four weeks, we have established that Philippians is "The Joy Book," and its author is Paul. It seems unexpected that Paul would be the "subject expert" on joy. When we think of Paul, we think of a man full of zeal and boldness. A man who chooses to take blows and doesn't seem content to go the easy way. How can a person like this, who was in prison when writing this letter, be filled with so much joy? What is his secret? Thankfully, he tells us directly in verse twelve that he has found the secret, regardless of the circumstances. It is found in Jesus who strengthens him (vs.13). Joy is first and foremost found in Christ. The secret of Joy is not so secret. If we take a page from Paul's book, we will discover four things: Paul engaged in godly relationships, had an active prayer life with thanksgiving, a godly mindset, and a generous heart. The secret to having joy regardless of our circumstances is found in the strength of Christ.
